The 10U girls had their first NIHL game against the Sabre’s #1 team at the Edge Ice Arena on Tuesday, September 28, 2005. Kami Weiner was in net. During the first period, the Sabre’s came on strong with three goals but were denied five others by Kami. During the second period, Emma Turbyville had a nice breakaway, but was unable to get it past the Sabre’s goalie. Morgan Turner took a shot to the body, preventing a shot on goal. With 1:11 to go in the second Madelyn Hartman scores from the point with the puck bouncing over the goalie, with the assist going to Emma Turbyville. In the third period, Kami had an excellent save that took the goal off the posts. The final score was Sabres 7 and TI 1.
Our second game on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 was against the Falcons at Lake Forest Academy. During the first period, Natalie Smith scored on a nice breakaway to put TI in the lead. With 34 seconds to go a tripping penalty was called on Smith. The penalty rolled into the second and the Falcons scored with 33 seconds left of the penalty, to tie the score at 1 a piece. Ellen O’Malley, Amanda Conway and Erica Truschke all had shots on goal in the second period, but were stopped the Falcons goalie. Check was called on the Falcons, but TI was unable to convert the power play to a goal. In the third, as throughout the whole game, Emma Turbyville had a fantastic flat out save. For the first time in net for a game, Emma showed she had what it took to stop the shots. Later in the third, Kami Weiner put a long angled shot from the far right side, sending it sliding past the Falcons goalie. With 2:39 left in the third the Falcons tied the score. The final score was 2-2.
The girls have a rough schedule coming up with 4 more games to be played by next Tuesday, followed by a tournament in Detroit. Good luck to the 10U on their tournament.
