The 14U Girls started the month coming up short in the NIHL competition with a 3-2 defeat against the Peoria Rivermen. Erin Bradarich and Maggie Hunt tallied the goals.
TI then faced the Huskies in a practice game the following day in another 1 goal differential. Lauren Jones put the first goal in the net for TI ending the first period tied 1-1. Jocelyn Simpson scored on an assist by Alex Laskero and Jones scored her second goal assisted by Kelly Galiniak to put TI ahead 3-2 after 2 periods, but the Huskies kicked off the 3rd with 2 goals before Emma Rambo scored to tie it 4-4. Rambo’s second goal in the 3rd wasn’t enough for a 6-5 final.
The 1st place Cyclones handed the girls their 3rd straight loss, falling 6-2. TI’s highlight came in the first when Kelly Galiniak scored her 1st goal of the year on an assist by Nicole Germaine. Rambo also scored with the help of Ali Svoboda.
TI got back on the winner’s side with a 6-1 victory over the Evanston Wildkits. Germaine, assisted by Simpson, started the scoring in the first, on her 1st of 2 power play goals. Kathy Shei followed with an unassisted short-handed goal for a 2-0 lead. Rambo, Svoboda, and Germaine each scored in a 3 minute stretch in the 2nd making it 5-0 before the final period. Evanston broke the shutout in the 3rd, but TI didn’t let up with Ann Doherty assisting Rambo for her 2nd goal. Kelly Shutter earned the victory while making 13 saves.
The 14U team saw their first MWEHL showcase in Kenosha, Wisconsin over the weekend of October 14-16. Friday night, TI started with a 5-0 exhibition win over the Texas Ice Jets. TI dominated with a 44-7 shot advantage and Shutter recording the shutout. TI goals were scored by Simpson, Svoboda, Germaine, Maggie Hunt and Amanda Boskovich.
Saturday morning TI faced Belle Tire in a league game and dominated play with a 40-10 shot advantage. However, Belle Tire’s goalie allowed only three shots to get by her for a 3-3 tie. TI’s goals were scored by Jones, Rambo and Germaine. Yardena Grumet- Morris recorded 7 saves.
On Sunday morning in the final game of the weekend, TI won 10-2 over MWEHL newcomer the St. Louis Cyclones. Jones led all scorers with 5 goals, while Germaine added a hat trick of her own. Rambo and Hunt added to the romp. TI led in shots 47-11, with Shutter notching the win.
TI was well represented in the weekend’s skills competition, placing 3 of its 5 participants in the finals. Ann Doherty took 1st in shooting, Kellie Shutter 1st in goalie competition, and Emma Rambo 4th in speed skating. Also competing for TI were Maggie Hunt (shooting) and Lauren Jones (puck relay). Congratulations to all participants!
TI resumed NIHL play with a 3-1 win over the Huskies. The team was much more positioned and in control than in their earlier practice game with this team. TI began the scoring with a defensive shot from Brianne Mahoney notching her first goal of the year. Hunt and Jones rounded out the scoring. Yardena Grumet-Morris covered the net making 10 saves.
In the final NIHL seeding round game, TI hosted the Falcons and skated away with a 3-1 victory, highlighted by Cheri Klosak’s first goal of the season. Also scoring for TI were Jones and Boskovich. The TI defense allowed just 4 shots. TI finished the NIHL seeding round 6-2-0, and earned Tier I at the Bantam Silver level.
The girls finished the month with a 4 game MWEHL showcase weekend in Madison, WI and overall MWEHL record of 4-0-2. On Friday late afternoon, TI posted a 7-1 victory over the Montgomery Blue Devils. Nicole Germaine earned a hat trick, Erin Bradarich shoveled in two goals and Rambo and Jones each muscled in a goal.
Saturday morning TI faced Honeybaked, a team with a reputation of strong and skilled players. The 1st period was scoreless but TI penetrated the net in the 2nd period with a goal from Ali Svoboda and added 2 more goals from Brianne Mahoney and Nicole Germaine in the 3rd to ensure a strong 3-0 victory. The TI defense played outstanding and the forwards contributed constant back checking. Yardena Grumet-Morris stopped 16 shots to earn the victory.
Saturday afternoon TI continued their winning streak with a 4-2 victory over the Texas Blaze, another new addition to the MWEHL, with Svoboda, Germaine, Boskovich and Doherty scoring. Kelly Shutter earned the win.
Early Sunday morning the TI 14’s battled with Victory Honda for a 2-2 tie to end the weekend. Jones and Hunt scored with Bradarich getting the lone assist. TI out shot their opponents 151-45 over the weekend.
November will be a busy month for the 14’s with a local MWEHL game against CYA, a practice game with San Jose, 6 NIHL games, and a trip to Ontario for the Chatham Tournament.
