March 2006 - 10U Reminisce Season

As another season ends, the 10’s look back to all the things they learned this year, all the new friends they made and all the good times they had together.

The first game in the State Round Robin was played against Joliet. Prior to this date TI had played them twice in practice games and the Jaguars had proved to be a challenge. But, as Coach Granato said in the locker room, it doesn’t matter what was in the past, but that the girls play their best and have fun. The girls did just that and played the hardest the parents had ever seen them play. There were a couple bad bounces that got over Kami Weiner’s stick, but all in all she played an unbelievably good game with 17 saves. The defense put up a tough fight and took them to the boards. Although TI was unable to score in the first two periods, they kept the pressure on Joliet. With 2 minutes left in the third period Amanda Conway put a beautiful shot in the net unassisted. The final score was TI 1, Joliet 3.

The second playoff game was against Crystal Lake, who had beaten TI in 3 out of 4 previous games. The 10’s skated well and Allie Granato scored in the first period assisted by Gina Horton. In the second period 3 goals were scored by Ellen O’Malley with an assist from Cheyenne Tuttle and 2 assists from Conway. In the final period Erika Truschke scored unassisted with 7:30 minutes to go. The final score TI 5, Crystal Lake 0. This win earned the 10’s a spot in the Blackhawk Cup Championship game.

The anticipation was thick in the locker room Friday night for the Championship game against Joliet. Although TI had lost in the round robin to Joliet, all were looking forward to another close game. There were smiles all around and the TI 10U’s were eager to hit the ice. The girls played hard with Truschke scoring in the third, but it wasn’t enough to take first place. Weiner had another great game with 25 saves. The final score TI 1, Joliet 4. The team headed off for an after game party. Best of luck as the girls move on to their spring activities.
