The U10’s headed up to West Bend, WI on January 13-15 for the Washington County Invitational. Their first game on Saturday against the Elmbrook Eagles started with an early goal in the first period by Allie Granato with the assist from Gina Horton. Cheyenne Tuttle kept her head in the game, literally, as one of Elmbrook’s shots bounced off her helmet. An Elmbrook hooking penalty ends the 1st period. During the second period the TI girls play strong with Jordon Thoma squeezing a strong Elmbrook player to the boards, avoiding a clear shot on goal. The third period, likewise, demonstrated more fierce play displayed by Maddie Hartman as she cut across the ice to divert a racing Elmbrook player. Kami Weiner had a beautiful game in net with a nice glove save in the third period and skates away with her first shutout of the season. Congrats Kami!! Final score TI 1, Elmbrook 0.
Since the next game was not until Sunday morning, the team headed off for a night of fun with their team dinner at Stocky’s. Go-karting was to be had by all and of course the girls and women out shined the men with better race times.
The second game gainst Waukesha Warhawks proved to be a challenging game. 7:44 into the first period Hayley Winker passed to Amanda Conway who passed to Gina Horton for the first goal. A few minutes later Waukesha was able to even the score. With a few minutes left in the period, Waukesha gets off a shot and Weiner thought she had it covered. However, the puck proved to be just behind her in front of the goal line so Colleen Callahan swept behind Weiner to get TI out of a close call. In the second period, Amanda Conway took the puck end to end, but was denied the goal. Hartman used her defensive skills by lying down in front of the net to avoid a wrap around goal. Third period maintained the strong play as Thoma was able to catch a breakaway Waukesha player and push her to the boards, avoiding the shot on net. At the end of the period, Ellen O’Malley scored a goal, posting the final game stats TI 2, Waukesha 4.
The final game was against Washington County and the girls seem to find their groove. 12 seconds into the game, Morgan Turner passed to Emma Turbyville for an early lead. Less than a minute later, Turbyville had a breakaway and scored again, only to be followed a couple minutes later with Conway scoring a nice goal. Washington was also able to score during the first period. In the second period 2 more goals were score by Turbyville with assists from Winker and Hartman and one goal for O’Malley. Third period, TI was able to score two more goals by Conway and Turbyville, with both assists going to Turner. The final score TI 8, Washington County 2. Congrats to Emma Turbyville for a hat trick and Morgan Turner for a playmaker. The girls received 3rd place.
The girls are now getting ready for next tournament in Verona, WI and the Blackhawk cup.
