2003-2004 Season

TI 14U#1 Takes 1st in MWEHL 

The TI 14U #1 team traveled to Detroit on Valentines weekend for the MWEHL playoffs. The pairings were set and by finishing first in the regular season TI earned the right to play the 4th seed team Little Caesars in the semi final game. read more...

TI 14U#1 wraps up MWEHL Regular Season 

Headed back to Detroit for the second leg of its eastern tour, the TI 14U #1 team entered the last weekend of league play with two goals in mind. First, they wanted to finish in first place in the regular season and earn the top seed in the playoffs the following weekend. This would be no easy task as the team faced Honeybaked twice this weekend and was entering with a record of 0-2-1 against the second place team. The second goal the team had was to score at least 8 goals to bring their regular season total goals to 100. read more...

TI 19Us Place 4th in MWEHL 

TI spent back-to-back weekends in Detroit. Going into the final Showcase weekend of the season, the TI 19Us needed a strong showing to secure a playoff spot. They responded to the challenge by winning 3 of their 4 games the weekend of February 6 - 8. read more...

TI 14U#2 Golden Blades Tournament Champions

Team Illinois Girls 14U #2 team braved the snow and ice on Interstate 94 to travel to The Icebox in Trenton, MI to play in the Golden Blades tournament January 23rd through 25th. First game was Friday against the Leaside Wildcats from Canada. The team had to play short handed. read more... 

TI 14U#1 Place 2nd at Golden Blades Tournament

The first game in Detroit was against the Ann Arbor Bobcats with the second scheduled game against MWEHL rival Honeybaked. TI won the first game in convincing fashion with a score of 5 to 1. read more...

TI 12U Advance to Semi's in Silver Sticks Tournament

Team Illinois 12Us traveled to Sarnia, Ontario to compete with eleven other teams at the Peewee AA level in the prestigious 6th Annual Silver Sticks Girl's Hockey Tournament in mid February after completion of a successful 13-0-3 NIHL Season and an overall record of 24-12-7. read more...

19U Return from Connecticut With Winning Record

Playing in the Polar Bear Tournament Dec. 27-30 in the U19-AA Division along with 34 teams from across the United States and Canada, the girls came away with a 3-1-1 record. read more...

14U#1 Wins Round Robin - Play in Quarter Final

TI U14 #1 team made the annual pilgrimage to Connecticut for the 19th Annual Polar Bear Tournament. The east coast competition was strong but the team won their division round robin games. read more... 

14U#2 Break Even at Polar Bear Tournament

The 14U#2 team traveled to Connecticut over Christmas break for some intense competition at the 19th Annual Polar Bear Tournament. The team was able to keep step with each game that brought them to a higher level of play. The team goes up 2-0 in the first game. read more...

12U Wins Four to Play in the Polar Bear Semi Final 

The TI 12U team joined their four comrade TI teams in Connecticut for the 19th annual Polar Bear Tournament over Christmas break. The team played strong and smart to win their four division games. read more...

10U Rake Leafs in Minnesota for 3rd Place Finish 

The 10Us played in the All American Girls Tournament hosted by Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine, MN the weekend before Thanksgiving. The girls made the local BP Pirates walk the plank with a score of 3-0 in their first game. But TI could not get their feet moving against the eventual tournament champs, Centennial, on the second day of play. The final of the second game was 3-1. With almost two feet of snow coming into town, TI quickly raked up the Crystal Lake Leafs on Sunday morning with a final of 5-0 and settled for a third place finish. 

Team Illinois 19U Travels North to the Shattuck Showcase Weekend.

Team Illinois 19U took to the road and the air for the MWEHL showcase weekend in Faribault Minnesota on November 21-23, 2004. Arriving Friday, the TI 19Us took to the ice against the Madison Capitals. In a close game Team Illinois prevailed with a 3-2 victory. read more... 

November Starts Strong, Ends Tough for 16U Girls

The 16U girls started November in fine fashion with two straight wins on November 1st and 2nd. In a home game on the 1st, the girls bested the Culver Academy JV Girls and won 3-0. read more...

Whether they are battling opponents to move up in the standings, or fighting gravity as they ascend the bleachers at their favorite rink, the 14U #1 team is focused on reaching their full potential. Led by the father and son coaching duo of Zeke and Nick Kochniarczyk, the girls are playing a demanding schedule which includes league play in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) Bantam Silver division and the Midwest Elite Hockey League (MWEHL) 14U Girls division. read more....

Team Illinois hosted the first Showcase Weekend of the 2003-2004 season on October 17-19. Teams from the Midwest Elite Hockey League were in attendance representing Honeybaked, Ohio Flames, Minnesota Thoroughbreds, Little Caesar's, Wisconsin Wild, Madison Capitals, Michigan Capitals, Washington Pride, Colorado Select, and Shattuck St. Mary's. read more...

Clean Sweep Weekend for 19U

The 19U team took on the Wisconsin Wild Major and Minor teams the weekend of September 20 & 21 and tallied up 3 victories by outscoring them 17 to 3 and out shooting the competition 84 to 26. read more...

16U Open Their Season in Findlay

The 16U team opened the 2003-2004 season in Findlay Ohio on September 19th. The tournament consisted of 4 games over the course of the weekend. The girls opened with a victory over Rochester. read more...

TI Girls 19U Open Their 2003-2004 Season

Team Illinois' 19U Girls opened their 2003/2004 season the weekend of Sept 12-14 with a trip to the Findlay Ohio Flames Fall Classic in Findlay Ohio. Led by Coaches Rob Granato and Jason Piwko, the 2002/2003 Blackhawk Cup State Champions have 8 returning TI members.  read more...

Midwest Elite Hockey League Girls Continue To Fill College Rosters

The Midwest Elite Hockey League Girls Division continues to see its senior girls advance both their education and hockey careers at many U.S. colleges and universities.  After a successful second season, and with 5 of its U19 teams having participated in the 2002-03 USA Hockey National Tournament, the league today announced that for the second straight year over 40 of its teams' graduating seniors will advance to Division I or Division III college hockey programs.   read more...

TI Players Selected for Central District Development Camp

Eleven Team Illinois players, who attended AHAI's first Girls' Development Camp at Lake Forest Academy in June, were selected from more than 80 girls to attend the Central District Development Camp in Green Bay, Wisconsin in July, 2003.  They are: Kristy Davis, Megan Gallagher, Erika Greenen, Laura Hart, Brittany Hartman, Katie Iraci, Jackie McTigue, Katie Osikowicz, Gina Reuter, Biranna Wolf, and CC Wyshnytzky.  Congratulations!

Team Illinois Players Selected to USA Hockey National Player Development Camps.

Eight Team Illinois player were selected to participate in the USA Hockey Camps this July and August in Rochester and Lake Placid, New York.  Tryouts for the Central District were held on April 26-27, 2003 at the Capital Ice Center in Madison, Wisconsin.  TI players are: Laura Hart, Jillian Kirchner, Kerry Mullins, Katie Osikowicz, Diana Karouzos, Molly Schaus, Sonja Novak, and Jackie Wedster.  Congratulations!

TI U12 Overall Winner in 2003 Nationals Easton Skills Competition

While competing at the USA Hockey Nationals in Aston, PA, the Team Illinois U12’s participated in the Easton Skills Competition.  Aleca Hughes won the individual puck relay and fastest skater events and placed high in the catch & shoot and breakaway challenge.   Goalie teammate, Sydni Espey, also placed high in the competition rankings.  Their combined scores placed Team Illinois the overall winner of the U12 competition.  Congratulations!
