19U's Kick Off 04-05 Season
After opening the season at the Stevens Point Tournament and three
individual games against the Chill, CYA and Wild, the TI 19U's traveled to
Lansing for the first showcase weekend of the year.
The 2004-2005 19U's are coached by Carisa Zaban and Katherine Dumiak. The
team is lead by captains Amanda Auger, Anna Baumgarten, Courtney
Stefanski, and Kellye Stefanski. The team consists of returning 19U's Olivia
Antognoli, Amanda Auger, Elaine McKenna, Courtney Stefanski, Kellye Stefanski, Samantha
Ullrich, Lauren Wiedmeier, and Victoria Wiedmeier. Joining from the 2003-2004 16U team are Phoebe
Amberg, Shannon Breen, Kelsey Hopkins, Ingrid Klockars, Ryann McCarthy, Nicole Sassorossi and
Cassandra Stoner. New to the club are Anna Baumgarten, Rachel Brobst, and Amanda
Pavlecic.
While in Lansing the girls came away with two wins and two loses. In the
opening game the 19U's defeated Capital Center Pride 4-0. In the first
period the girls jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The first goal was scored three
minutes into the period on a shot from Baumgarten assisted by Breen. TI
struck again less than a minute later on a goal from Lauren Wiedmeier assisted by Tori Wiedmeier. The girls closed out the first period on a
goal from Sam Ullrich. After a scoreless second period TI struck a fourth time on
a goal from Tori Wiedmeier.
In the second game TI faced the Thoroughbreds. In a hard fought game TI lost
to the Thoroughbreds 3-0. In the second period Elaine McKenna sustained a
shoulder injury while in goal. We wish her a speedy recovery. The third game
was equally as challenging as the girls took a tough 7-0 loss to
Honeybaked.
TI bounced back in the final game of weekend against Victory Honda. In a
physical game the 19U's showed great poise by capitalizing on the Victory
Honda penalties. In a 6-0 route, Sam Ullrich opened the scoring with an
unassisted goal at the 8:02 mark. Nicole Sassorossi scored a minute and a
half later on an assist from Amanda Auger. Finally at the 2:14 mark in the
first period Anna Baumgarten scored with the assist coming from Ingrid
Klockars. In the second period Lauren Wiedmeier scored twice. The score at
14:30 was assisted by Klockars and Baumgarten. The score at 12:51 was assisted by Kellye
Stefanski and Amanda Pavlecic. In the third period Lauren Wiedmeier capped off a hat
trick with a goal at 9:27 assisted by Kelsey Hopkins and Amanda Auger. With 10 seconds
remaining in the game Kellye was elbowed. The injury will have her sidelined for several
games. In addition Kelsey sustained a shoulder injury keeping her out of the Powerade
game.
On Sunday, October 24th, the 19U's traveled to Milwaukee to take on the
Powerade. Eight TI skaters and Ryann in goal took on a full strength Powerade team. In the end TI
fell 3-0 in a hard fought contest. There were several scoring opportunities, however this
time Powerade outlasted the TI 19U's. TI will take on Powerade again on Saturday the
30th at Seven Bridges.
Outside of a busy practice and game schedule a number of the 19U girls and
parents made time to participate in the "Ron Santo JUVENILE DIABETES Research Foundation
Walk" on Sunday October 3rd. The groups completed the 6.2 mile walk at Busse Woods
and in the process raised close to $600 for this worthy cause. Thank you for making time
to give back to others so research into a cure for this disease can continue.
