14U#2's Play Up To Expectations
The 14U#2 team began its regular season of competition in both the NWHL
(Northwest Hockey League) Bantam youth division as well as the GCHL (Girl's
Central Hockey League) 16U division.
The girls opened strong against a fast and experience Rolling Meadows team.
The girls were able to outlast the Renegades in a close contest, 2-1. Abbey
Miller was awarded player of the game for her outstanding performance in
goal. TI then faced the Chief's 16U team in a practice game. The last
minute scheduling caught the girls a bit off stride; however the team managed to skate to a 2-2 tie.
Next on the schedule was a trip north to Crystal Lake and a contest with the
Leaf's 14U girl's team. TI dominated most of the play beating back the
Leafs 2-0, as Samantha Patrone was awarded player of the game. Also earning
the award in the early campaign were Jessica Reibel, Amanda Bosckvich,
Sydney Lieb, Brook Toland, Samantha Scholl and Amy Hoffman.
The team has played exceptionally well in this early season despite some
close losses. Veteran players Jessica Reibel, Sydney Lieb, Jessica Hoelzer
and Tanya Weiner have taken on strong leadership of the team.
The 14's then ran into a stretch of bad luck dropping a close game to the
Sabers 5-3. The girls traveled to St. Louis to meet the 16U Cyclones in a
3 game set. TI failed to tally a win in the matches, dropping 3 consecutive
games to the experienced Cyclones team. Defense was outstanding as Jessica
Hoelzer, Sarah Steinke and Amy Hoffman battled valiantly to keep attackers
at bay. The team played well and improved with each outing. A minor injury
to defensemen Caitlin Flynn left the 14's a bit leg weary on defense at
game's end. Strong goal tending by Abbey Miller and Brook Toland could not keep
the strong Cyclone team from finding the net. Anna Durante, Samantha Scholl,
Scarlet Keane and Kristin Storto played outstanding in the corners, digging
out pucks to waiting line mates. Amanda Bosckovich, the teams leading scorer, Jessica Reibel and Samantha
Patrone spearhead the 14's lines.
The 14's will travel to Trenton Michigan in January for the Golden Blades
Tournament to defend their 2004 Championship. Also on the agenda is a
tournament in London, Ontario to face off against the powerful Canadian
teams.
