TI 16U finish up MWEHL
Team Illinois 16U girls played a four game showcase weekend in Vernon Hills
on January 16-18. The girls played hard in losses to the Wisconsin Wild
(4-1) Friday night and the Madison Capitals (1-0) Saturday afternoon before
besting the Birmingham, MI Rangers 4-1 Saturday night. Kerry Mullins scored
for TI in the loss to the Wild, while Katie Goeing stopped 25 shots in a
nice effort in the loss to the Capitals. Phoebe Amberg opened the scoring
against Birmingham and was followed by goals from Ingrid Klockars, Katie
Osikowicz, and Kelsey Hopkins. Ryann McCarthy played well in goal for the
win. On Sunday, TI played the Shattuck St. Mary's girls in a tight battle
that was 1-1 for most of the way, Mullins again scoring for TI. A third
period goal by Shattuck gave them the lead and they held it despite a strong
effort by TI.
On January 24 and 25, the girls traveled to Culver Academy to play the
Culver girls. Saturday's afternoon contest was a hard fought 1-1 tie.
Nicole Sassorossi tied the game in the first period after Culver's opening
goal. In Sunday's morning affair, TI opened the scoring on Kerry Mullins
goal on a pass from Rachel Tuszynski. After Culver tied the game, Tuszynski
gave TI the lead on an unassisted goal and then Katie Osikowicz scored less
than a minute later to make the final 3-1 for TI.
February has the girls traveling to Detroit for the last showcase and then
preparing for the State Round Robin playoffs the last weekend of February.
