The TI 14U #1 team returned to Detroit on Valentines weekend for the final leg of their eastern tour and the MWEHL playoffs. The pairings were set and by finishing first in the regular season TI earned the right to play the 4th seed team Little Caesars in the semi final game. With the game scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon some of the team fought the traffic on Friday night and others got up in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday to make the now familiar trek east on I-94. It did not matter when they left everyone was at the rink by 11:30 am to watch the other semi final match up between 2nd seed Honeybaked and 3rd seed Montgomery Blue Devils. The TI team fully expected that Honeybaked and themselves would walk through the semis and meet each other yet again in the finals. Well, as they say, on any given day anything can happen in a hockey game when you run into a hot goalie. And that was the case in this first semi final game when the Montgomery goalie turned away 46 shots and launched the Blue Devils into the championship game with a 1 to 0 victory.

TI and Little Caesars took the ice next with the winner going on to the championship against the Blue Devils and the loser playing for 3rd place against Honeybaked. This game proved to be just as exciting and tension filled as the first semi final. Little Caesars took a first period lead on a penalty shot with 25 seconds left in the first period. Caesars maintained their lead until 1:29 left in the second when TI tied it up. Regulation play ended in a tie with TI out shooting Caesars 41 to 22. In the extra period the TI team came out determined to win, out shooting Caesars 6 to 0 and netting the game winner with 1:29 left in the period.

Setting up the pairings for the championship game on Sunday, TI won the coin toss and would take the ice as the home team. After watching the Montgomery and Honeybaked game the TI team was taking nothing for granted. At their team meeting on Saturday night they discussed what they need to work on during the game and what and who they needed to watch out for. On Sunday morning the TI girls came out ready to play. TI took a 2 to 0 lead in the first period. After scoring a goal in the second and third TI had a 4 to 0 lead early in the third period. The Blue Devils never gave up and with 1:45 left in the game they broke the ice cutting the lead to 3. Playing short handed for the last 1:45 of the game the Blue Devils took advantage and scored their second goal just 40 seconds into the power play. With 1:08 left in the game TI went to work and shut down Montgomery to win the game 4 to 2. Congratulations to the 14U #1 MWEHL champions with a record of 22-1-0. Good luck at state.
