TI 14U#1 Place 2nd at the Golden Blades Tournamet

The 14U#1 team started its eastern tour with a trip to Detroit for the Golden Blades Tournament January 23rd - 25th. With this being the first of three trips to the Detroit area over the next four weeks the team decided to take a bus for this trip. This proved to be a great decision as the team was able to bond on the way to and from Detroit which included a six and a half hour drive there in a snow storm. Arriving in Detroit just 2 hours prior to their first game, the team went right to the rink to prepare. At this tournament the coaching staff decided to play up one level at the U16 AA level in order to play teams other than those played in the MWEHL. The first game was set for Friday night against the Pittsburgh Iceburghs. The TI Girls came out strong taking the first game by a score of 14 to 0.

The next morning the girls geared up for what was to be a tough day. The first game was against the Ann Arbor Bobcats with the second scheduled game against MWEHL rival Honeybaked. TI won the first game in convincing fashion with a score of 5 to 1. The second game was the first meeting of these two teams sense Honeybaked handed TI its first loss in MWEHL play. TI took an early 1-0 lead in the first period and then added to their lead with 2 goals in the second period. The 3 to 0 lead stood until late in the third period when Honeybaked roared back scoring 3 goals in 3 minutes and tying the game. The game ended in a tie with both TI and Honeybaked winning their respective brackets.

Sunday proved to be a remake of Saturday. In the morning TI faced Ann Arbor in the semi finals beating them 2 to 0 giving TI a birth in the afternoon championship game against Honeybaked. The championship game proved to be a tough and close game with each team having chances to put the puck in the net. Regulation play ended in a 0 to 0 tie forcing a sudden death 4-on-4 overtime. The game ended with Honeybaked scoring a power play goal with 2:27 left in the overtime sending the TI girls home with second place and knowing that they have a chance to play Honeybaked two more times in two weeks.
