16U Show Well at Season's First Showcase Weekend
The 16U girls finished their first Showcase weekend October 17-19 with a 2-1
record. In the first game on Friday night at Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon
Hills, TI gave the more experienced Honey Baked girls all they could handle
in a 2-0 loss. Goalie Ryann McCarthy faced a barrage of tough shots from
the unbeaten Honey Baked girls saving 30 of the 32 shots keeping TI in the
game until then end.
In Saturday's exhibition contest vs. the Montgomery Blue Devils, 2 goals
each by Rachel Tuszynski and Katie Osikowicz paced the TI girls to a 5-1
victory at Heartland Arena. Kelsey Hopkins scored the other goal as the
defense held Montgomery to just 3 shots helping Katie Goeing earn her first
victory in goal.
Sunday's final contest at the Edge found TI defeating the Shattuck St.
Mary's 16U girls 4-2. Carolyn Thiess, in her first game for TI, opened the
scoring less than 6 minutes into the game on a nice assist from Lauren
Black. Rachel Tuszynski made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second
period after a feed from Jackie McTigue. Two unanswered goals by
Shattuck tied the game with 8:01 to go in the game. 20 seconds later, Deanne Loster
fed Shannon Breen who sped through the Shattuck defense and scored to give
TI a lead they would not relinquish. Ingrid Klockars finished the scoring
to give TI a 4-2 win.
A nice weekend for the 16U girls as they continue to improve and look
forward to showcase weekends in Madison, WI and Faribault, MN in November.
