November Starts Strong, Ends Tough for 16U Girls

The 16U girls started November in fine fashion with two straight wins on
November 1st and 2nd. In a home game on the 1st, the girls bested the
Culver Academy JV Girls. Kerry Mullins led the scoring with 2 goals, the
first on an assist from Phoebe Amberg and the second unassisted. Rachel
Tuszynski scored the third goal on a feed from Jackie McTigue as TI won 3-0.
Katie Goeing stopped 12 shots for the shutout.
Sunday, Nov. 2, the girls traveled up to Milwaukee to face the Wild.
Lauren Black opened the scoring for TI on a rebound off a Kerry Mullins shot
3:00 into the game. The score remained 1-0 as TI goalie Ryann McCarthy was
brilliant in frustrating the Wild offense into the 3rd period. The Wild
tied the game with 8:00 remaining and it appeared the game would end that
way as time was winding down. With less than 30 seconds to go in the game,
Katie Osikowicz stole a pass at center ice and drove towards the net on a
breakaway and fired a wrist shot past the Wild goalie to give TI the victory
in their best performance of the season.
After a 6 game unbeaten streak, the 16Us had a frustrating Showcase Weekend
in Madison WI, Nov. 7-9. A strong Colorado Select team controlled the puck
in a very physical game on Friday night. Katie Goeing made a valiant effort
in net, keeping the score 2-0 through the second period. Final score: CO
Select-5, TI- 0.
Saturday pitted the TI girls against their two Wisconsin rivals (both of
whom we have beaten this season.) Ingrid Klockars drilled a pretty wrist
shot from the bottom of the circle with assists from Carrie Sell & Lauren
Black in the second period of the Madison Capitals game. The score was tied until
6:04 in the third period when the Caps pulled ahead, and TI just couldn't
get it back. Final score: 2-1. The Wisconsin Wild had 3 unanswered goals
in the 2nd period. A single unassisted TI goal by Ingrid Klockars in the
3rd period was not enough to win the game. Final score: 3-1.
Sunday, Shattuck posted a 3-1 win despite an all-out effort by TI. Katie
Osikowicz scored in the 1st period with assists from Klockars & Kerry
Mullins.
On November 21st, the girls traveled to Faribault, Minnesota for a tough
four game weekend. Facing the much more experienced Colorado Selects and
CYA teams, TI managed to stay close for two periods in both games. Eventually, the age and experience
of the other teams won out. In games vs. Shattuck and Madison, the TI girls were the
victims of some bad breaks and great goaltending losing 2-1 and 3-0.
After a week off for Thanksgiving, the girls have had some good practices,
including a session with former Blackhawks Peter Marsh and Brian Noonan.
They are looking forward to putting together another winning streak in
December.
