As far as the on ice time in December, the bright spots were a couple of
games against the Wisconsin Elite Girls on December 20th and 21st. On the
20th, the game was tied in the third period when Shannon Breen drove home a
nice pass from Katie Osikowicz to give TI 2-1 lead. Some great defensive
plays by Carrie Sell, Cassie Stoner and DeAnne Loster helped keep the Elite
off the board to help seal the victory. On Sunday the 21st, TI cruised to a
4-1 win. Phoebe Amberg drove through the Elite on an end to end rush to
start the scoring and TI never looked back. Kerry Mullins, Kelsey Hopkins,
and Erin May added goals as the final was 4-1.
The girls had another good performance facing the very tough and physical
Little Caesars girls on December 12th during that showcase weekend. The
game ended in a 2-2 tie but it was a strong effort by the girls. Thanks to
goals by Jackie McTigue and Kelsey Hopkins as well as some great defense by
Carrie Sell and goaltending by Katie Goeing, the girls held up well against
one of the top teams in the Midwest Elite Girls League.
At the just completed Polar Bear Tournament in Connecticut, the girls played
in a tough division against the Colorado Selects, Rochester Edge, and the
Washington DC Little Capitals. The Colorado Selects have proven to be a
nemesis for the girls and playing them in Connecticut was no exception in a
loss in the opening game. The Selects made it to the semi finals of the
tournament before losing to eventual winner California. So a loss to them
was no disgrace. However, they played great games against the Capitals and
the Edge. Both games were defensive battles as Ryann McCarthy started in
goal in a 1-0 loss to the Capitals and then shutting out the Rochester Edge,
the team that won their division in Connecticut, in a 0-0 game.
January will give the girls some time to continue to work on improving their
game with a heavy schedule of games in the area and a trip to Culver Academy
in Indiana for a couple of games.
